About Sam Smith

Sam Smith grew up in a small English village. His father was a stay-at-home dad, while his mother was a successful broker. Success seems to run in the family: Sam Smith is related to the singer Lily Allen and the actor Alfie Allen. Since he was a child Sam was musically supported by his parents. As a teenager, he sang as a backup singer at performances of his jazz singing teacher and attended a music school, where he got more singing lessons.
In 2007, Sam Smith won the South Coast Idol music competition. As musical inspiration Smith mentions mainly female singers like Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse, Beyonce or Mariah Carey. His first musical success Sam had as a guest on Disclosure's hit single "Latch". In 2013 and early 2014 his solo singles "Lay Me Down" and "Money On My Mind" were released. The latter raced to the top of the UK charts. His debut album "In The Lonely Hour", which includes the two hit singles, was released in 2014 by Capitol Records. In the album, Sam Smith sings about an unrequited love for another man.
In 2015 he won four Grammy Awards, including one of the category Best New Artist. For "Writing's On The Wall", the title song of the James Bond movie "Specter" Smith received an Oscar in the category Best Song. In 2017 he released his single "Too Good At Goodbyes" as well as his second album "The Thrill Of It All".
