It goes without saying that she also won the competition. She continued singing in the school and in the church choir.
In 1990 she, her childhood friends LaTavia Robertson, Kelly Rowland, Keke Wyatt and Támar Davis formed the girl group Girls Tyme. After LaToya Luckett joined the band the manager fired Wyatt and Davis leaving a four-piece band. They got more successful and performed as support group of several popular R&B girl groups at that time. After signing theit first record deal they renamed themselves to Destiny’s Child. The band had great success, released several number one hits and won numerous awards. With the huge success of their song “Bootylicious” the word became a huge phenomenon and Oxford dictionary even added it to its list.
In 2001 the band members split in order to pursue their solo careers. They later released one more album and went on tour but quit Destiny’s Child for ever in 2005.
Beyoncé’s first solo single was “Work it Out” which was released in 2002 and was used as the soundtrack to the film “Austin Powers in Goldmember” where she also starred. Together with Jay-Z the singer recorded the song “’03 Bonnie & Clyde” in the same year. The song reached number four on the Billboard 100.
“Dangerously in Love”, Beyoncé’s debut studio album, was released in 2003 and hit the top of the US charts. It sold over 11 million copies worldwide. Also the singles “Crazy in Love” and “Baby Boy” featuring Sean Paul reached number one.
This great success continued for Beyoncé when her second album “B’Day” and several of its singles also reached number one on the US and international charts. In 2007 she released the number one hit “Beautiful Liar” together with Shakira.
For her third album “I am…Sasha Fierce”, released in 2008, the singer created her alter ego Sasha Fierce. The single “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” was a huge success and landed on the top of the charts as did her album again.
In 2011 while performing live for "Love on Top", Beyoncé announced her pregnancy. This news went viral, and the Guinness Book of World Records subsequently listed it as the record for “most tweets per second recorded for a single event” on Twitter, receiving 8868 tweets per seconds.
At the Super Bowl 50 in 2016 Beyoncé sang her song “Formation” from the album “Lemonade”. The album was voted on number one of the 50 best albums of the Billboard Charts 2016 by the magazine Rolling Stone.
