Johnny Electric - this was originally planned to be the band's name, but they then decided to name it after their lead singer Jon Bon Jovi. And he seems to be the boss as he actually owns the band, and employs the other band members as employees.
The real-life name of the band's lead singer, Jon Bon Jovi, is actually John Francis Bongiovi. He has a father with Italian and Slovak roots and also a mother of German and Russian ancestry. Bon Jovi’s first US number-one-hit was “You Give Love a Bad Name” but it was just inches away from being a miss. Jon Bon Jovi and his co-writer Richie Sambora thought about giving it another band before its release. Luckily they didn't!
The first two albums of Bon Jovi didn’t really have much success. With their third album “Slippery When Wet” however they had their huge international breakthrough in 1986. Hits like “Livin’ On A Prayer”, “You Give Love A Bad Name” and “Wanted Dead Or Alive” rocketed in the charts.
After a very long and exhausting tour in 1990 the band took a musical break so the members could focus on their solo projects. Jon Bon Jovi released his first solo album “Blaze of Glory” with guest appearances of Jeff Beck, Little Richard and Elton John. Guitarist Richie Sambora released his album “Stranger in This Town” with Eric Clapton as a guest musician.
After the break the band started composing again and had their major success in Europe. In 2000 the album “Crush” was released. The single “It’s My Life” was a mega hit and is still Bon Jovi’s most successful and popular song. In the following years the band went on many stadium tours and released numerous albums that where all successful but of course couldn’t compete with the album “Crush”. Bon Jovi’s latest album “This House Is Not For Sale” was released in 2016. They will present their newest release on their great UK, Europe and USA tour in 2019.
