Bruno Mars facts

Peter Gene Hernandez was born on October 8, 1985 in Honolulu, Hawaii. When he was still a chunky baby his dad gave him the nickname "Bruno" because he reminded him of the hefty wrestler Bruno Sammartino. In an interview Bruno said "The 'Mars' came up just because I felt like I didn’t have no pizzazz, and a lot of girls say I’m out of this world. So I was like, I guess I’m from Mars."
In 2003 Bruno Mars started his musical career in Los Angeles and signed his record deal with Atlantic Records in 2009. At the same time he founded his production team The Smeezingtons that also produced some of his own singles. With the release of the songs “Nothin’ on You” by B.o.B and “Billionaire” by Travie McCoy Bruno Mars first rose to fame as he was singing at the chorus of these songs. When he released his debut album “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” in 2010, it immediately reached number three on the Billboard 200 charts in the US and even number one in Canada, the UK and several European countries. The singles “Just The Way You Are”, “Grenade” and “The Lazy Song” all became worldwide hits.
His second album “Unorthodox Jukebox” was released in 2012 and rocketed on number one in the US, Australian, Canadian and the UK charts. The singer even won a Grammy Award in the category Best Pop Vocal Album. The singles “Locked Out Of Heaven” and “When I Was Your Man” were equally successful and also reached the top of the charts. In 2014, Bruno Mars collaborated with Mark Ronson for their mega hit “Uptown Funk” which topped the charts in numerous countries around the whole world and won two Grammy Awards.
“24K Magic” was released in 2016. Although the album didn’t make it to the top of the charts in the US, it won incredible seven Grammies including the major categories Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. With his 24k Magic World tour, Bruno Mars lastly toured North America in autumn 2018.
Bruno has a gypsy, an anchor and two other tattoos on his arms. On his right upper arm wears his mother's name, Bernadette. On his upper left arm are the words "Pete's Boy" as a tribute to his father.
Bruno Mars is one of the best-selling artists of all time, which means he has achieved 75 million or more record sales during his career.
