Dropkick Murphys facts

Nowhere else in the world are Irish traditions, especially St. Patrick's Day, as much celebrated as in Boston. So it's not surprising that Boston's punk scene got a good portion of Irish folk in the late 90s when the band Dropkick Murphys formed.
The band's history is marked by numerous member changes. After the release of their debut album "Do Or Die" in 1998, singer Mike McColgan left the band to become a firefighter, but finally returned to music with his band Street Dogs. His successor was Al Barr. After the second album "The Gang's All Here" was released in 1999, guitarist Rick Barton left the band and chose James Lynch as his successor. Mark Orell, Spicy MacHaggis and Ryan Foltz joined the Dropkick Murphys before the third album "Sing Loud, Sing Proud" was released, but were later replaced by Tim Brennan, Scruffy Wallace and Jeff DaRosa.
Since 2001, the Dropkick Murphys have been performing annually at the St. Patrick's Day Festival in Boston.
In 2008, Marc Orrell left the band to dedicate himself to his own music project. Their 2011 album "Going In Style" features NOFX and Bruce Springsteen as guest musicians, among others. In 2015, bagpiper Scruffy Wallace separated from the Dropkick Murphys after a musical break.
The band's latest album, "11 Short Stories of Pain & Glory", was released in 2017.
