Red Hot Chili Peppers facts

Who are the Red Hot Chili Peppers?

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are comprised of the four schoolmates Anthony Kiedis (singing), Michael “Flea” Balzary (bass), Hillel Slovak (guitar) and Jack Irons (Drums), who had their first common appearance as band on February 13th in 1983. After the unexpected death of Hillel Slovak as a result of a drug overdose in 1988, Jack Irons left the band due to personal reasons. They both got replaced by John Frusciante and later Josh Klinghoffer (guitar) and Chad Smith on the drums.

Which albums have been released by the RHCP?

For the last 36 years, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have released eleven studio albums, while "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" in 1991 being their breakthrough album with more than 15 million sales. Before that they published "The Red Hot Chili Peppers" in 1984, "Freaky Styley" in 1985, "The Uplift Mofo Party Plan" in 1987 and "Mother’s Milk" two years later. The album "One Hot Minute" in 1995 was followed four years later by their commercially most effective album "Californication", which was produced in Balzary’s garage and sold more than 16 million times. Three years later, "By the Way" was published and managed to follow up on the past successes just as "Stadium Arcadium" in 2006. But after that, the band has been on the cline, publishing two more albums "I’m with you" (2011) and "The Getaway" (2016) but never reaching their earlier successes again.

What are RHCP’s greatest successes?

The Red Hot Chili Peppers managed to sell more than 80 million audio recordings worldwide, winning silver six times, gold 94 times and platinum an incredible number of 257 times. They also got awarded six Grammy awards, seven MTV Video Music Awards and four MTV Europe Music Awards. On April 15th 2012 they received the honor of being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, making their guitarist Josh Klinghoffer the youngest member of this exclusive club. On February 2nd 2014 they played the Super Bowl XLVIII half time show together with Bruno Mars.

What can you expect of the RHCP in the future?

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ lead singer Anthony Kiedis announced that the band started to work on a new studio album in 2018, letting their fans hope for another world tour. In 2019 the Red Hot Chili Peppers finished their first Australia tour in 12 years!
