Spice Girls facts:

Who are the Spice Girls?

The Spice Girls are the most successful girl group ever. The band was founded in 1993 during a competition in which the five girls competed against 400 other girls. At that time the Spice Girls were still called The Touch. The role models for the band were the then very successful boy bands like the Backstreet Boys and Take That.

Which Spice Girls are there?

Each of the band members was assigned an alter ego, so Emma Bunton became Baby Spice, Mel B became Scary Spice, Victoria Beckham (then Adams) became Posh Spice, Mel C became Sporty Spice and Geri Horner (then Halliwell) became Ginger Spice.

What is the most successful hit of the Spice Girls?

In 1997 the Spice Girls won the Brit Award for Best Single and Best Music Video for their debut hit "Wannabe". "Wannabe" was considered the fastest selling debut single of all time. Soon they became world famous outside their home country Great Britain and played sold out shows all over Europe and the USA. The single reached number 1 of the charts in countless nations and even broke a chart record held by the Beatles in the USA. Today "Wannabe" is an absolute cult and one of the most popular songs of the 90s.

What albums have the Spice Girls released?

In 1996 the girl band released their debut album "Spice", which also featured their successful hit "Wannabe". The album hit the market like a bomb and sold over 1.8 million copies in the UK. The second album "Spiceworld" was equally successful and was the fastest selling album in the world in 1997 with seven million copies sold in two weeks. After their third album "Forever", released in 2000, didn't sell as well as the band had hoped, the Spice Girls decided to go separate ways.

Will there be a Spice Girls reunion?

In 2007 the five members got together again to go one last time on a big world tour. In 2016 the former members Geri Horner, Emma Bunton and Melanie Brown even recorded new songs. Under the acronym GEM they re-released their hit "Wannabe". Victoria Beckham focused on her fashion line at that time, while Melanie C preferred to devote herself to her musical solo career.
To the great delight of the fans, the Spice Girls went on a big tour through the UK in 2019 - but without Victoria Beckham. The concerts were completely sold out within a few seconds. Whether the reunion tour will also take place in other countries has not yet been confirmed.
