All about Steve Aoki

Who is Steve Aoki?

Steven Hiroyuki Aoki was born in Miami on November 30, 1977 and grew up in Newport Beach, California. His father is Rocky Aoki, founder of the Benihana restaurant chain and a well-known wrestler. Steve Aoki has four other siblings and three half siblings, including the model Devon Aoki. Steve Aoki graduated from Santa Barbara University with two bachelor's degrees: one in Sociology and one in Feminist Studies. Already during his studies Steve produced his first records and gave small concerts in his dormitory. In 1996 the musician founded his own label "Dim Mak", on which he released songs by electro artists like the Bloody Beetroots as well as his own music.

What is Steve Aoki's trademark?

Steve Aoki received special attention for the crazy tradition of throwing cakes in the face of his fans during his live performances. In order to have only the best cream cakes available, the artist has even put together his own team of confectioners to accompany him on his tours. In an interview, Aoki explained that the quality of the cakes didn't depend on good taste, but only on how well they "explode". Anyone who is now afraid of involuntarily becoming a cake victim at a Steve Aoki concert can be reassured: The DJ cake bombs only fans, who loudly ask for it. The one who screams loudest then becomes the target.

Is Steve Aoki married?

In 2010 DJ Steve Aoki and Australian model Tiernan Cowling got engaged. Five years later, the long-term couple got serious and got married in Hawaii. According to the British magazine The Sun the two separated again in 2018. The supposed reason for this was the DJ's exhausting tour life, under which the relationship suffered more and more. On average, Aoki performs 250 shows a year. Nevertheless, Steve and Tiernan split up amicably and are still close friends.

Is Steve Aoki vegan?

Sociology and Feminist Studies? During his studies, Steve Aoki lived up to every cliché of an alternative student. He called himself a punk, was straight-edge, vegan, and regularly went to demonstrations. Back then, he never thought that he would become one of the most famous EDM artists in the world. Rather, he was busy fighting societal issues such as racism and social injustice. Whether Steve Aoki still lives vegan today is not entirely clear. But judging by his cream cakes, he’s not. Fun fact: Some time ago Steve Aoki was even arrested because he accidentally cake bombed a vegan fan. He had interpreted his excessive head banging as approval.

What are Steve Aoki's most popular hits?

Although Steve Aoki may be known for his unique shows and crazy demeanor, the DJ gained worldwide fame for his catchy hits. Aoki had his big breakthrough in 2010 after releasing the single "I'm in the House" together with Zuper Blahq, the alter ego of Will.I.Am. of the Black Eyed Peas. It climbed to 29th place in the UK and reached the top five of the UK dance and UK indie charts. Aoki's first solo album "Wonderland", for which he was even nominated at the Grammy Awards, features artists such as LMFAO, Kid Cudi and Travis Barker. Steve Aoki's most famous hits include "Pursuit of Happiness", a remix of the song of the same name by Kid Cudi, "A Light That Never Comes" and "Just Hold On", which reached second place in the UK single charts.

How much is Steve Aoki worth?

Steve Aoki is one of the richest DJs in the world and the wealthiest dance artist in North America. His net assets are estimated at $75 million in 2019.
