The Streets facts

Mike Skinner, who grew up in Birmingham, started making music with a keyboard already as a child and built up a temporary recording studio in his room where he recorded his first hip hop tracks with friends.
In the late 1990s, Skinner released his first single "Has it Come To This" under the stage name The Streets on the record label Locked On and moved from his hometown to London. The single helped the young rapper to his big breakthrough and entered the Top 20 of the British charts in 2001. His first album "Original Pirate Material", which he produced on his own laptop and in which he describes the lives of British teenagers, was highly praised by critics in the UK and even the USA. Numerous magazines and newspapers, including Rolling Stone and The New York Times, described the album as one of the best of the year.
Besides The Streets, Mike Skinner is also working on other music projects as Grafiti and The Beats.
The Streets’ second album "A Grand Don't Come For Free" and the single "Dry Your Eyes" reached number one in the UK charts in 2004. The album tells the story of a man who loses 1000 pounds and his desperate search for this lost money.
After his big world tour, the rapper founded the record label The Beats (now called Mike Skinner Ltd.), on which he released his following records.
In 2010, The Streets announced that his fifth album "Computers And Blues" would be his last album under this stage name. Contrary to this announcement, in 2017 Skinner announced a reunion tour of The Streets for 2018, starting in Berlin in April 2018. At the end of 2017, the new single "Burn Bridges" unexpectedly appeared as a download, followed by "If You Ever Need To Talk I'm Here" in early 2018.
The Streets will return to the UK in 2019 and can be seen live on stage in Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, London and many other cities.
