Volbeat Facts

In October 2001 singer and guitarist Michael Poulsen founded the band Volbeat after leaving his previous band Dominus. After writing some songs he found Anders Kjølholm (bass), Teddy Vang (guitar) and Jon Larsen (drums) as new band members for Volbeat. A short time later guitarist Teddy Vang already left the band and was replaced by Franz Gottschalk. Volbeat's demo "Beat the Meat", which was released in August 2003, was voted "Demo of the Month" by several German magazines. Especially the songs "Soulweeper" and "Danny & Lucy" achieved international fame and were played on the radio in Sweden and France.
After winning Denmark's biggest music competition, Volbeat had the chance to  sign to a Dutch record label. The debut album "The Strength / The Sound / The Songs" was released in 2004. After the band excited their audience at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark, the album sold over 5000 copies and reached number 18 in the Danish charts. The high flight continued throughout the year: Volbeat won numerous newcomer awards and performed at several festivals in Europe. At the same time the band separated from Franz Gottschalk and replaced him with Thomas Bredahl.
In 2007 the second studio album "Rock the Rebel / Metal the Devil" was released. This album was also highly praised by critics and even reached number one in the Danish album charts. "Rock the Rebel / Metal the Devil" stayed in the Danish Top 5 for three months and was – together with the single "The Garden's Tale" - awarded platinum at the end of 2007.
Only one year later the band released their third album "Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood". The album tells the story of a man who is found murdered in his car in the desert. He then founds a band to look for his murderer. The album reached number one like its predecessor and was also a huge success in Scandinavia and Germany. In 2009 Volbeat played their first concerts in North America. In 2009 Volbeat played their first gigs there as the opening act of the Finnish metal band Nightwish and Metallica.
While the band was on tour with Metallica, the members were already writing songs for the upcoming album "Beyond Hell / Above Heaven", which was finally released in September 2010 and continued the story of the previous album. The band's international success also continued with this album.
At the end of 2011 Volbeat announced that they would part with guitarist Thomas Bredahl. During the recordings for their next album "Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies" the band replaced this position with guitarist Rob Caggiano. The success of this album topped all its predecessors. It reached the top of the charts in six countries and reached ninth place in the USA.
In 2015 the band separated from another member: bassist Anders Kjølholm was replaced by Kaspar Boye Larsen, who had helped out at several Volbeat concerts before.
The album "Seal the Deal & Let's Boogie", released in 2016, reached number one in seven countries and continued the band's flight of fancy seamlessly.
This year you have the chance to see the Danish Metal superstars live at many festivals and on their concert tour through Europe.
