In 2017 it was already confirmed after long speculations that world star Beyoncé will portray the lioness Nala in Disney’s new live-action version of the 1994 classic “The Lion King” which will finally be released on 19 July 2019. The date marks the 25th anniversary of the original film.
Beyoncé’s voice will be heard alongside top-class cast including Donald Glover as the protagonist Simba, James Earl Jones who will be reprising his 1994 role as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, John Oliver as Zazu, Seth Rogan as Pumbaa, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi and many many more.

The film is directed by Jon Favreau who already created a remake of “The Jungle Book” in 2016. With the new “The Lion King” he creates a new take on the classic animated film transforming it into a photorealistic computer animated remake using the newest technology.
In November 2017 it was announced that Hans Zimmer and Elton John would write the music for the film and rework the original soundtrack. Additionally, there will also be new music written by Beyoncé and Tim Rice for the end credits of the film. It was confirmed that Beyoncé will sing “Can You Feel The Love Tonight”.

In the past, Disney released several live-action reboots of its older animations, the most recent being “Beauty and the Beast” with Emma Watson which mad more than $1.2 billion worldwide.

The original Lion King from 1994, which became popular for its catching songs like “Circle of Life”, “Hakuna Matata” or “Can You Feel The Love Tonight”, made $968 million worldwide and was adapted as a long-running Broadway show that is still popular today.

This is great news especially for fans of Beyoncé who toured the world last year with her husband Jay-Z on their On The Run II Tour that ended in fall 2018. And who knows, maybe Beyoncé will use all this attention surrounding the film to promote a new tour?
Although there is no official album or tour announcement yet, it may be that Beyoncé will release a new album in 2019 as it has already been three years since her latest record “Lemonade”.
One of Beyoncé’s former producers told in an interview that the pop star is working on new music but unfortunately couldn’t tell any more details. It wouldn’t come as a surprise to fans if Queen Bey dropped her new release unexpectedly this year.
