When One Direction announced their break-up in 2016, many fans of the British boy band felt like the world was crashing down on them. It all started already in 2015 when the band member Zayn Malik left the band in order to pursue his solo career. Shortly after that the band announced a longer hiatus which apparently hasn’t ended yet - or so fans were led to believe.
For One Direction fans 2020 could be the year that they will finally see their favourite band live on stage again! There have been very subtle messages that led to the rumours about a possible reunion of One Direction.
One of the most obvious hints was a notification that One Direction fans received when the band’s website was updated for the first time in months. As the website now reads “2020 Sony Music Entertainment” at the bottom of the page, fans are convinced that this means 2020 will be the year of the great comeback of their favourite band.
Another clue for the eagerly awaited reunion was band member Liam Payne’s announcement of the upcoming One Direction documentary. Thought, it was more of an accidental slip than a real announcement. While promoting his debut solo album in Dubai, Liam told a local newspaper about the last time he visited Dubai with the band: “It’s hard for me to remember specific gigs because it was a blur of planes and sound checks and screams. I think we filmed that show and it will be part of a documentary around an anniversary.”
Said anniversary will very likely be the year 2020 as One Direction formed exactly ten years ago in 2010. This ten-year anniversary would not only be perfect for the release of a documentary but also for a spectacular comeback. As Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson are all touring the world with their solo albums in 2020 there might even be the chance that they will drum up Liam and maybe even Zayn in order to play some concerts together as One Direction.
